Onion
An onion, also known as the bulb onion or common onion, is a vegetable that is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium. The shallot is a botanical variety of the onion which was classified as a separate species until 2011. Its close relatives include garlic, scallion, leek, and chive. Onion, Herbaceous biennial plant (Allium cepa) of the family Alliaceae, probably native to southwestern Asia but now grown worldwide, and its edible bulb. Among the hardiest and oldest garden vegetable plants, onions bear a cluster of small, greenish white flowers on one or more leafless stalks.
India is the second-largest onion-growing country in the world. The Indian onions are famous for their pungency and are available round the year. Indian onions have two crop cycles, first harvesting which starts from November to January and the second harvesting from January to May.

Garlic
Garlic is a herb grown throughout the world. It belongs to the genus Allium and is closely related to onion, chives and leek. It is widely used for flavouring in cooking, and has medicinal properties as well. Garlic produces chemical allicin that gives it a strong smell. It matures in 120-135 days and average yield is 8-14 t/ha. It produces medium size compact white bulbs. This variety with attractive purple skinned bulbs has been recommended for cultivation in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Garlic has a very long folk history of use in a wide range of ailments such as ringworm, Candida and vaginitis where its fungicidal, antiseptic, tonic and parasiticidal properties have proved of benefit as recommended by Indian Ayurveda.
