Garlic
Garlic is a herb grown throughout the world. It belongs to the genus Allium and is closely related to onion, chives and leek. It is widely used for flavouring in cooking, and has medicinal properties as well. Garlic produces chemical allicin that gives it a strong smell. Currently, garlic is most commonly promoted as a dietary supplement for conditions related to the heart and blood vessels, including high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure. Fresh garlic, garlic powder, and garlic oil are used to flavor foods. Garlic may be used topically (applied to the skin).
It matures in 120-135 days and average yield is 8-14 t/ha. It produces medium size compact white bulbs. This variety with attractive purple skinned bulbs has been recommended for cultivation in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
